How does Hill define reality TV?
Ultimately, the reality television genre has developed greatly over the past 15 years and continues to do so as an ever-in-transition genre (Hill, 2005). Hill (2005) supplies information on the defining of ‘reality’ TV across different networks in England and over in America as well. Each company seems to have their own opinion of what sits under the umbrella of reality, and what sits under Lifestyle, History, or any of the other related sub-genres.
Hills (2005) notes that the one defining feature of reality TV, across all networks and nations, it the ability to let viewers see for themselves. With this in mind, I wonder if the views then have the ability to influence plot directions and outcomes. I am reminded the reality TV show Flavour of Love where an unattractive rich musician from America looks for a girlfriend, and the runner up to winning Flava as a full time boyfriend ends up creating her own series I Love New York.
