Research the films that have been adapted from Philip K. Dick novels or short
stories. Which have generally been acclaimed as the most successful? Why?
Blade Runner (1982)
Total Recall (1990)
Screamers (1995)
Minority Report (2002)
Paycheck (2003)
A scanner darkly (2006)
Next (2007)
The adjustment bureau (2011)
And that is just the tip of the ice with roughly about 121 short stories and 44 published novels to his credit by Philip K. Dick. The most acclaimed successful movie is however, Blade Runner. In the beginning many critics and even the audience did not pay great attention to the movie, however for the past 28 years this has changed. I think it has a lot to do with the novel in itself by Mr. Dick and perhaps even the great director like Riley Scott driving the films progress on its back. It is acclaimed by many as “the greatest sci-fi movie of all time.” The audience also has to take credit for its success without the people who do enjoy philosophical deep science fiction in the sense the movie is really quite genius with its ‘world where humans can be manufactured as consumer products’ and so on.
