Research the films that have been adapted from Philip K. Dick novels or short
stories. Which have generally been acclaimed as the most successful? Why?

Since quite a few of Phillip K. Dick's novels have been made into films, they can be seen as the most acclaimed. Most authors will admit that they hit big on a novel when someone wants to turn it into a film. His most successful could include: 'Do androids dream of electric sheep'(film called 'Blade Runner'), 'Second Variety' ( Film called Screamers), 'We can remember it for you Wholesale (Film called 'Total recall'), 'Imposter', Minority report (hit big in cinemas due to Tom Cruise lead), 'Paycheck', 'A scanner darkly' , 'The golden man( Film called Next), 'The adjustment team' (Film just released, included Matt Damon) and soon to be released 'King of Elves'.
The film Blade Runner is probably the most talked about due to the amount of work that went into the film, even after it was released. The film itself did and did not do too well, The voice-over which was deemed unusable by the actor was released in the film and then redone or taken out in the Directors cut.. This film has been wildly critised, as it was released in 1982 and finalised on Dvd in 2007.
Most of his novels tht have been adapted for film did reasonably well, and are usually reconised with the use of a big lead, like Tom Cruise, Matt Damon, Harrison Ford, Keanu Reeves and much more..

  1. Danni - you've referred to one online source here and this is reflected in your discussion. Exploring a greater range of online sources can contribute to a more indepth (and less generalized) discussion - also don't forget to include your own evaluation or opinion here - which adaptation do YOU think is the best and why? Also use the conventions for referencing online sources. Check out group 3 on this question - there are some very interesting responses there.

  2. I was so surprised when we started studying Phillip K Dick, as I had never heard of him, but to then learn about some of these movies, that I had heard of, I never knew the two were correlated. It is true what we learnt in class about this man not having the critical acclaim that he deserves as I found him to be so amazing.

  3. Me too- I have never heard of the guy. And here's me thinking I wonder why? Oh yeah thats right I'm not a real fan of Sci-fi genre. But this proves that in turn it can be interesting the amount of work Mr. Dick has done. Quite a lot as you have mentioned. I can only imagine the people that are die hard fans of sci-fi worshipping his works.
